about

This is a release of two songs recorded in Nashville, TN. Produced by Andrija Tokic

I wrote these two songs during the quarantine in 2020, on piano.

The songs are about the power of expression in song.

The photograph for the cover is my all time favorite photograph. It was taken by Andrew Shafer, probably in 2005. It may be in Washington DC or in NYC. I am unsure. This is a print on paper and it was a misprint, so the other half of the photograph is missing. I have been carrying this photograph around with me since he gave me this print in 2006. Its a bit tattered as you can see.
This photo is very powerful for me, if you look closely the child has his hand around a visible peace sign, his innocent expression, the only full faced captured and framed perfectly in a sea of adults. The word "Lov" visible.
I used this photo because of its message. Peace and love. It is simple powerful and beautiful.

When I found the piano that I have, I thought a lot about my earliest music lessons in public school in Rochester, NY. Ms. Frangipani played an upright piano in front of the class and taught us the major scale and civil rights era gospel songs, like "This little light of mine" and "He's got the whole world in his hands".
Though I didn't know it at the time, those classes were fundamental in my understanding and ability to make songs. I tried to dig into those memories to create and write from. I wrote about 10 songs, and the theme that ran through them all was there is personal power in singing, creating and playing music and it is for everyone. It is inherently revolutionary. Unfortunately the way things turn out sometimes, I couldn't secure a complete budget to record the whole record. I have a few songs from one session in Nashville and a bunch of demos. Things moved too slow during 2020-2021 and the project lost momentum.

These two songs I do feel captured the message I wanted to convey that is also conveyed in this photograph. Musically I think they are the most interesting recordings I have made.
